She has worked extensively in broadcast sales & marketing in Houston since 1979 at various classical, news and oldies radio stations, a radio traffic network, at both independent and network television stations and owned her own marketing company.
Besides working over 30 years in the Houston broadcast arena, Dawn has served in philanthropic efforts to and for seniors for over 20 years including as Executive Board Member: Generation’s Senior Chair, for Luis Palau’s Cityfest Houston and as the Nursing Home Director for four years at Lakewood Church, Houston, TX.
Dawn also serves on the board of Lackey Ministries/Love Botswana as the Founding Board Member since 1987. She has previously served on the boards of Restoration of Women’s Virtues and Song of the Spirit Ministries.
Incorporated as a 501 (c) 3 in 2000, Golden Rule Broadcasting debuted the Senior Inspirational Channel on Thanksgiving weekend of November 2002 at Northwood Healthcare in Marble Falls, TX. serving over 100, mostly Medicaid, senior healthcare residents. Because the majority of the residents were non-ambulatory, an engineering model was configured utilizing low voltage radio transmission directly to the resident’s radio.
Additionally, rechargeable solar, fix tuned radios pre-programmed to GRB’s broadcast radio frequency were availed to senior residents who did not have a radio. These solar radios have a simple on/off button and volume control for easy use. Program services continued at Northwood in Marble Falls until 2011 when ownership changed and the residents were re-located to several newer healthcare facilities in the area.
Since GRB’s initial program area to meet the needs of those most isolated, GRB has expanded with three much needed programs. The vulnerable seniors that we serve enjoy the life enhancing benefits of these additional programs:
· Certified Music Therapy
· Gifting of Communication Devices such as a radio or television
· Comfort Basket and Disaster Relief.
